Intellectual Property (Patent) Paralegal

Futurex, named one of San Antonio’s “Best Places to Work” by the San Antonio Business Journal, is seeking talented individuals with a passion for technology and a proven track record of managing complex intellectual property portfolios to join our team in the position of Intellectual Property (Patent) Paralegal.

Primary Responsibilities 

The Intellectual Property (Patent) Paralegal role requires candidates to be self-starters, willing to independently generate and maintain a large amount of data relating to intellectual property, and perform a wide variety of related tasks. Candidates must possess a strong understanding of the legal terminology and processes relating to patents, trademarks, and copyrights for the United States, and preferably international markets as well. 

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications, liaising with engineering and technical personnel to develop a detailed understanding of inventions
  • Providing advice on intellectual property-related issues, recommending courses of action that take legal, technical, and strategic perspectives into consideration
  • Developing and maintaining Futurex’s database of intellectual property records and filings, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and domains
  • Meeting deadlines for submissions, renewals, and other documentation filings
  • Organizing documentation for, and assisting with, intellectual property litigation and due diligence 


  • Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal certification
  • Demonstrated expertise in intellectual property management and patent prosecution
  • Superior attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handing sensitive and proprietary information
  • Flexibility to work with stakeholders across a wide range of disciplines and departments
